FAQ's

Q: How is PfMP different from PMP or PgMP?

A: PMP is tactical (single project), PgMP is operational (related projects), and PfMP is strategic (all investments).

Q: What is the “Panel Review”?

A: It is a qualitative assessment where experts review your professional summaries to ensure you are actually performing portfolio management, not just high-level project management.

Q: Is the PfMP exam based on the PMBOK Guide?

A: No. It is primarily based on the Standard for Portfolio Management and the Exam Content Outline (ECO).

Q: Can I fail the Panel Review?

A: Yes. If your summaries don’t reflect portfolio-level thinking, the panel may ask for more information or reject the application (with a partial refund).

A standard PfMP preparation course covers:

  • Strategic Tools: SWOT analysis, Balanced Scorecards, and Gap Analysis.
  • Prioritization Models: Weighted scoring, Net Present Value (NPV), and ROI.
  • Capacity & Capability: Resource supply vs. demand and resource optimization.
  • Portfolio Balancing: Managing the “Efficient Frontier” to balance risk and reward.
  • Stakeholder Mapping: Influence/Interest matrices for executive communication.
  • Experience Summary Review: Specialized coaching for the Stage 1 Panel Review.
